Complied by Salil Chawla, Director, DFU Publication, on the occasion of CII Textcon'25 Conference held in New Delhi on 02-12-2025.
The global textile industry is undergoing a paradigm shift toward circularity, and India has the opportunity to lead this transformation. By rethinking material flows and embracing recycling, repair, and reuse models, the sector can turn waste into value while reducing its environmental footprint. Emerging innovations in textile-to-textile recycling, biodegradable materials, waste collection, upcycling/ recycling and traceable supply chains are enabling brands to close the loop on sustainability.
With growing global. buyer mandates for circular sourcing, India's success will hinge on robust policy incentives, industry collaboration, and scalable recycling infrastructure. By embedding circularity into design, production, and consumption, India can redefine its textile leadership from volume-driven to value-driven growth.
