India Post offers a powerful, government-backed channel for international exports, making global shipping simpler, cheaper, and fully compliant. As a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), India Post operates under globally standardized rules alongside the World Customs Organization. This ensures seamless cross-border movement without the need for individual country offices — shipments booked in India are delivered by partner postal services like USPS in the USA.
Key advantages include simplified procedures, digital/paperless filing, and access to all existing export incentives such as GST refunds, RoDTEP, and RoSCTL. Since 2018, the introduction of the Postal Bill of Export (PBE) has revolutionized commercial exports. Exporters can choose between manual and digital modes. The digital route through the Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra portal enables online booking, automatic generation of documents, and faster processing.
India Post provides four dedicated international services:

Express Mail Service (EMS) — Trackable service to 108 countries, up to 35kg per box, with volume-based discounts.
International Air Parcel — Available to 135 countries, up to 20kg.
International Tracked Packet Service — Especially popular for e-commerce and samples (up to 2kg or 5kg).

Mumbai serves as a major gateway for customs clearance for shipments from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa. Same-day dispatch from major offices and free pickup services further reduce transit time and costs.
Compared to private couriers, India Post stands out with competitive rates, no hidden charges (remote area, fuel surcharge, etc.), and dedicated green channels for bulk shipments. Exporters can consolidate multiple destinations under one shipping bill in manual mode, saving significantly on bank charges for EPCG/ RoDTEP purposes.
With minimal documentation (IEC, GST, PAN, bank details), one-time KYC, and volume discounts up to 80% on select services, India Post has become a preferred partner for textile, e-commerce, and manufacturing exporters.
