Salil Chawla, Director, DFU Publications, covered this annual important event in the NIFT New Delhi is a pioneering institute of fashion education in India.
Speaking at the Technosummit 2026 organised by National Institute of Fashion Technology, JD Giri, Director of Shahi Exports, delivered a deeply motivational keynote address urging students and young professionals to remain humble, curious, and committed to lifelong learning.
Drawing from a powerful analogy, Giri said that learning becomes possible only when one is willing to “empty their cup.” He explained that if a person believes they already know everything, no new knowledge can enter. “Keep your mind open and continue learning every single day,” he emphasised, adding that growth comes only when individuals remain receptive to new ideas and experiences.
He further advised the audience not to become overly attached to designations, salaries, or titles. According to him, the true purpose of a career is to create meaningful impact — not only in one’s own life but also in the lives of others and the larger ecosystem around them.
Sharing an inspiring anecdote from history, Giri recalled how former US President John F. Kennedy once visited NASA and asked a janitor what his role was. The janitor famously replied, “I am helping put a man on the moon.” Giri used this story to underline the importance of seeing one’s contribution as part of a much larger vision and mission.
He encouraged the students to think beyond immediate goals and work collectively towards building a stronger India through innovation, dedication, and purpose-driven effort.
Concluding his address, Giri congratulated the students and wished them success in their future journeys, while urging them never to stop learning and evolving.
