In a major push to protect India’s industries, stakeholders at the 6th edition of the Traceability and Authentication Forum (TAF 2025) called for stricter anti-counterfeiting laws and advanced traceability measures.

Organized by the Authentication Solution Providers' Association (ASPA), the two-day event highlighted the urgent need to safeguard the integrity of India’s industries from the menace of counterfeiting, which affects both domestic markets and exports.
Industry experts noted that counterfeit products, mislabeled goods, and fraudulent certifications pose a serious risk to India’s reputation, both in domestic markets and internationally.

Over 500 exhibitors came together in the Istanbul Expo Centre on 35,000 square metres with over 22,600 visitors from 106 countries from the EU, the Middle East, Asia, North Africa and North America and presented a wide range of woven fabrics, knitwear, denim, accessories, prints and yarns. A new feature of the trade fair was the dedicated area for embroidery in Hall 8.

Over 6,000 international buyers came to the fair, many of whom took advantage of the networking opportunities at the B2B meeting organised by Texhibition at the fair.

The United States is the world’s second-largest market for textiles and apparel (T&A), accounting for 15% of global T&A exports.

For India, the USA is the single largest export destination, contributing to 28.5% of India’s total T&A exports between January and November 2024.

India’s Position in the US Market India is the third-largest supplier of T&A products to the USA after China and Vietnam, holding a 10.8% share of the US’s total T&A imports valued at US$ 118.4 billion.

India’s textile industry is evolving rapidly. Until recently, most Indian brands relied on fabric imports from China, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. However, post-COVID, this landscape is shifting, with significant investments flowing into Gujarat and Maharashtra. CITI Analysis of Exports and Imports of T&A for January 2025.

During Jan’25, Indian Textile exports were about 16.14% higher as compared to Jan'24, while apparel exports registered a significant growth of 11.45% during the same time. 

Cumulative exports of Textiles and Apparel (T&C) during Jan’25 have registered a growth of 13.88% over Jan’24.

With the Prime Minister’s 5F vision to propel the Textile industry’s holistic growth, in the last Bharat Tex inauguration, he expressed his desire to include Dyes and Chemicals industry in the event. In line with his desire, Dyes and Chemicals industry is present in Bharat Tex 2025 at India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida, which will open doors to visitors on 12 February 2025.

Approximately 50 leading companies would display their sustainable products, services, and technology for the textile Dyeing, Printing and Processing industry including Natural Dyes.

The ITMF’s 30th Global Textile Industry Survey conducted in January 2025 reveals a cautiously optimistic outlook amid ongoing challenges in the textile value chain.

While the overall global business balance remains negative at -15 percentage points (pp), the trend has been on an upswing since November 2024, especially in South America, which shows a positive balance of +21pp. Notably, garment manufacturers have also turned positive, registering a balance of +3pp.

CITI welcomes the Union Budget 2025-26 which reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening India’s textile and apparel sector.

The budget witnessed the textile allocation increased significantly by 57.7% for 2025-26 compared to the revised budget of 2024-25. It is majorly due to increased allocation of Rs 1,148 crore under the PLI scheme for the current year.

CITI CDRA Project Review Meeting
Confederation of Indian Textile Industry’s research and development arm Cotton Development and Research Association (CITI-CDRA) organized its Annual Project Review Meeting on 22nd January 2025 in Nagpur which was attended by key stakeholders from the cotton industry, government, academia, and the farming community.

The event featured various insightful sessions, workshop on cotton futures and hedging,  felicitation and award ceremony, and concluded with a field demonstration on Cotton Shredding and Biochar preparation at the farm of a project participant in Parshivani Taluka.
